Maria José Nunes, information deputy director at TVI, tell us about GMediaPlan and its role on the news of the audience leader channel in Portugal.
According to Maria José Nunes, the immediacy confined to information area requires the existence of tools that answer to heightened pace of news production.
What are the main responsibilities at your company?
I am responsible for the coordination of production at TVI information area. My role is, basically, to coordinate schedules in different areas at TVI information, which includes also, the planning of the information cable channel – TVI24.
I follow the news and coordinate all resources needed to produce news, for example, teams of camera operators and image editors as well as their equipment, such as cameras or editing rooms.
TVI 24, broadcasted 24 hours on cable TV, displays a diversity of programs as interviews and debates. It is necessary to contact commentators, allocate technical resources such as a studio or hire external resources to record a program abroad. Much of the planning is done on time.
What is or are the most interesting factor (s) on your work and to the tv business in general?
Having to work under pressure and stress to produce news and information programs at time. On this work we are targeted to react, we have to react on time to find all necessary resources to produce and edit news, to be in the air at the right time.
How long do you work with GMediaPlan?
I started to work with GMediaPlan, soon in its creation, since 2002, when I was working at RTP (state owned broadcaster). GMediaPlan was designed and structured to plan the schedules of employees at information area of RTP. It was necessary to plan employees schedules to the news studios and this kind of information was itself dispersed on individual spreadsheets. The need evolved to have at the same system the possibility to budget production costs, such as the equipment to produce an outside program or a program on studio.
What is the role of GMediaPlan at your work and in your area?
GMediaPlan helped me a lot to plan schedules, allowed me to know the schedules of each employee.
Can you underline the main advantages and improvements on your daily work with the use of GMediaPlan? How was your work before GMediaPlan´s implementation?
Planning schedules become centralized, the information is no longer dispersed into individual worksheets where only few could see. Communication became ineffective when it was necessary to change a schedule.
Since we work on the top of the events, one of the advantages of GMediaPlan I can point is the versatility to answer on time. The GMediaPlan can be accessed by any employee, anywhere and anytime. The producers coordinators can know the schedules of news editors and the editors can also know the schedules of pivots. Became more easy to work. Even the maps of schedules are used to allocate tasks. The editors and pivots, as well as producers, have the opportunity to know, at this way, what tasks they have to do on a specific day.
