Edvandro Meireles, project manager at Rede Record, responsible for implementing GMediaPlan, tell us about GMediaPlan’s contribution on the production areas of the oldest broadcaster in activity in Brasil. Since 1953, Rede Record has been broadcasting entertainment programs, news, sports, soap operas and series which are responsible for TV network second position in Brasilian audience.
To Edvandro Meireles, one of the GMediaPlan’s advantages is integration, availability and mobility of the information which previously was scattered throughout different areas.
What is or are the most interesting factor (s) on the TV business in general?
At TV Record, we are the broadcaster with the most alive programs produced. Daily, are produced more than 12 hours. This requires high coordination of all teams involved in the production process.
How long does Rede Record work with GMediaPlan?
Rede Record began implementing GMediaPlan in July 2013 and in September started working with the Production Map on studios. The Support to Production and Operations area was the first area to use this map and later Fabrica de Artes to scenery production. Then, Record enlarged the product implementation to other areas, mainly related to equipment, such as post production, journalism and edition stations, ENGs (portable production units) and the area responsible for ENGs transportation service and allocation.
Adding to this map, this implementation has also required high coordination at human resource level, having to tune the solution to schedule planning and to daily tasks. At this moment, we have a complete workflow starting on who requests, for example an ENG, and who attends and is responsible for the allocation of human resources and equipment.
Having all the areas set, we are working on boundary areas related to production, such as, artistic support areas, wardrobe, dressing-home, make up and hairs.
What is the role of GMediaPlan at Rede Record work?
GMediaPlan allows an integrated view of production activity. This is a planning and an execution control tool.
Can you underline the main advantages and improvements on daily work with the use of GMediaPlan? How was the work before GMediaPlan´s implementation?
GMediaPlan’s implementation forced us to reevaluate our several and complex processes. As results of this reality, where all content are measured minute by minute on TV, there is little time to rethink how to make/produce. GMediaPlan is a global and integrated tool, therefore several areas are being motivated to think on a new way. We are now on a timeframe where users begin to see the benefits of having an integrated and participative work.
Today, before execution, on planning, we can see how does a specific production cost. Previously, this was only able after each task execution. The budget was created for the year, and this one was approved and then executed. Nowadays with GMediaPlan we can plan the execution, we are able to plan how the money will be spent on a production and is not necessary to wait for the end of the month to know what costs will be. Besides the project/product budget we have also the budget execution. When GMediaPlan’s cost part will be integrated to ERP, we will have costs information before production is done.
We also have large gains in terms of integrated planning. When we work in an independent way, we have flexibility but we don’t have control. The information on the Production Map was previously filled on spreadsheets and sent by email, which didn’t allow the integration needed between areas. GMediaPlan has enabled an integrated plan involving all areas. With this tool were created different workflows with implications on people workflows. Today all participate and communicate in an integrated way and in a real time.
